About Kassandra

The ‘Click Cluck Buckle Up’ campaign used humour and a memorable character to encourage young people to always put on their seatbelt.

It was the selected 2025 metropolitan TAFE campaign in Queensland for the Re:act program, which challenged young designers to create a positive message to encourage their peers to wear their seatbelts on every trip, as a driver or as a passenger.

Our research showed 17-25 year old Queenslanders respond well to humour. So we created Kassandra. Kassandra is an absolute ‘diva’ a memorable mascot with a catchy slogan that will stick in people’s minds and remind them about seatbelt safety.

taking action

The research we conducted for Re:act showed that 70% of 17-25 year olds wear their seatbelt. But that still leaves nearly a third of young Queenslanders not. 30% of young Queenslanders either don’t wear seatbelts at all or wear them incorrectly, both of which significantly increase the risk of injury or death in a crash.

Seatbelts are there to keep you safe and secure, especially during a crash. Some people think that in a crash, seatbelts will trap you in the vehicle, or that not wearing a seatbelt is better because you will be thrown safely out of the vehicle during a crash. These MYTHS are not true. In fact, vehicle occupants are more likely to be seriously or fatally injured in a crash by being thrown from the vehicle, or colliding with the steering wheel, or being trapped between seats or other people. Wearing your seatbelt keeps you safe.

Here are three things you can do to stay ‘seatbelt safe’:

  • If you know anyone who doesn’t wear their seatbelt, Speak up your voice could save their life.

  • Wearing your seatbelt should be habitual.

  • Wear your seatbelt correctly. The seatbelt should cross over your torso and your lap, and should not be tucked under your arm or behind your back. Wearing it correctly reduces the risk of being injured during a crash.

About us

We had a lot of fun participating in the Re:act program. Everyone in our team was very dedicated to the program and to creating Kassandra and we adore how she turned out. We learnt a lot about working in a team and designing for the real world. It also brought to our attention the importance of road safety especially in our age group. We really hope that this campaign will get more people to wear their seatbelts!
